V6 new engine for GT's?
Here is an excerpt from Motortrend.com
"To wit: there's a contingent at Ford pushing to install the Lincoln MKS' EcoBoost V-6 under the Mustang's hood. The argument is that the lighter, 3.7-liter twin-turbo, gas direct-injection V-6 will produce more horsepower than the base V-8 and weigh less. While better handling, quicker acceleration and lower fuel consumption are upsides for the turbo engine compared to either the 4.6-liter or upcoming 5.0-liter V-8, Ford is concerned the market won't accept the engine. Remember the SVO Mustang?"
I have been saying this for the longest time that the 05-09 mustang will be the last of the V8's. I could be wrong but with CAFE standards getting pushed down and young people being more fond of smaller engines with poweradders I think it might happen.
What are your guys thoughts. Would any of you trade you 05-08 V8 GT for a turbo six?
Personally I would not. 6's can be fast and are nice in their own right but to me a GT should be a V8 and no 6 could ever come close to the sound.
Alright Discuss.

RE: V6 new engine for GT's?
Times are going to have to change.... fuel economy is going to become a bigger issue due to CAFE, and also due to the fact that gas prices will continue to climb. I am happy with any car that gives me headsnapping performance. If a twin turbo V6 can deliver better accelleration and torque than a V8, why wouldn't I want that? I have a supercharged V6 now, and am happy with that because it's just as fast as a GT, and runs like a V6 when I stay out of the throttle.
Having said that, they could look at displacement on demand technology for the V8, so it runs like a V4 when cruising... that should help gas mileage. I gotta admit.... I love big powerful cars. But I am growing tired of paying $55 a tank of gas every 6-8 days.

Ford could get a V8 to be far more economic if they could be bothered to spend some money on research/development. Well, that or just steal some European/Japanese engine technology [&:]

If I wanted a turbo 6 then there are plenty or imports that I would buy first, not a GT. I dont think it will be good for the mustang, because it will be the end of the classic muscle image it carries.

A TT V6 option is a good option. But they cannot eliminate the V8 from the GT. I think Ford knows that, and with all the surveys we've been given over the last year or two, I think they know how we feel. Especially with the Challenger and Camaro coming out now. They won't take the V8 away. They tried having only 4 and 6 cylinders in 1974. In 1975 they introduced the 5.0L to try to boost sales. Then in 1980 and 1981 they dropped the displacement of the V8. 1982 they brought the 5.0L back. They've tried several times and it hasn't worked. They (should) know better than to elimate the V8.
