Not turning car on for a long time good or bad?
Hey guys just wondering. During the winter time i dont buy insurance for my stang and i keep it in the garage. Is it good to start it for a couple minutes every few days? or is it just better to leave it and not start it till i need to drive it lets say 2 months. I'm guessing it will run out of battery but im more worried about the engine itself (ie. engine oil at the bottem of the engine then starting it'll ping?). Any insight and information anyone? thank you. I care for my beauty internally.

Take the negative battery cable off in between starts. Start it every 2 weeks and let it come up to temp. You don't want to start it for just a couple of minutes.

Also,I would put sta bil in it so the fuel doesn't gum up

Good point. Fuel is good for 3 months. Any longer and you need to add a stabilizer.

I've got a low mileage '07 that I've put 490 miles on her is 12 months (Friday is her birthday).
Starting the car and bringing the system up to running temperature every 2 weeks is good advice. 3 weeks and my battery is a little week. 4 weeks a jump off is needed. I've got one of those digital volt meters that plug in to the power outlet. When the battery gets around 11.9 volts it's time to run her.
I usually take her for a 5 mile spin and then idle for a total time of 30 minutes.

I left my car off for three weeks while I was on my winter break in NY. When I got back the battery was dead. I got it jumped, drove for an hour, and everything was back to normal.

Your post reminded me that I had put fuse "F16" back in my Pony a few weeks ago . Just ran out in to the garage and the battery was at 11.7 volts!
It did crank, but I pulledfuse "F16" afterwards.
Fuse "F16" is under the hood on the passenger side. It powers the Shaker 500 sub amps in the door. Rumor has it that these amps drain the battery even with the car off.
I'm starting to belive the rumornow that I have the digital meter.

Either way, doesn't hurt to pull the fuse if you're not using it.

I start mine once every month and let it run until it reaches operating temp (at least 20 minutes) and shut her down. I have a Battery tender and it maintains the battery for me during storage so the cars battery never dies and is always in a great state of charge regardless of when I last started her. I still recommend putting sta-bil in if storing more than 2 months and check your tires (pressure) every 2 wks and move the car a little every time you start it to prevent flat spots. I have a car cover for in the garage and leave the windows cracked for ventilation and reduces the film you get on the windows come spring. Turn the radio off when storing and do not use the parking brake as it can get stuck until it thaws.....JMO hope it helps J
