4.10's + auto= WOW!!!

I just got some FRPP 4.10 gears installed on saturday and I have to say I am glad I didn't go with 3.73's or 3.90's. The weather is kinda crappy here in Chicago but I did get to test them out a little and I was amazed at the difference from the stock 3.31. The car gets up in the RPM's so much faster. This is by far my favorite mod i've done to my car so far.

I also want to say that Sutton Performance in Matteson IL did an amazing job, they set up a "How to day" at their shop on saturday and let my local car club come in and watch them install the gear in my car. They went step by step and answered all of our questions and were all around great guys to talk to. I know they aren't sponsors here on this site but I just wanted to give them props. I hope this doens't get editted out.

Be kind of lame if it did. Glad you like the improved tourque. You will suffer in the fuel economy dept. but to some, that doesn't matter and to some it does. Important thing is glad you like the gears. Not like we drive over 130 everyday anyway.

I was thinking about getting 4:10's installed......but I have heard that they are a little too much for a DD....how is that so???

I'm looking to get gears soon too. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the install cost you?

I agree with what a fellow MF member said to me:
"Do not fear the gear!"

I paid $500 total for 4.10 parts and install.

I got a little bit of a break because they used my car for a demonstration, but I think $500-600 sounds about right for parts and labor.

How much did the install run you? I'm in the Chicago area and would like to swap gears at some point in the future.

I too am in Illinois and glad to hear that Sutton was helpful. I have been in contact with Randy there, and I have to say the service and customer support is amazing. I'll definitely pay them a visit in the future.

I'm getting some gears installed next weekend.

But I was going to get 3:73s. I'm thinking about fuel economy as I do highway driving from time to time.
But isn't 4:10s too much for daily driving? I mean it just keeps shifting?

How short is first gear now? A second or less?

Because of the weather I haven't really opened her up, but under normal driving I really didn't notice any difference in shift points. I did drive on the highway for about 25 miles after the install and at 75mph the car was running 200-300rpm's higher than it did with the stock gear. My car is my DD and I know that the gas mileage will go down a little but, it's totally worth it!
