Actually there is a risk when installing some of the after-market CAI's and not adjusting the tune on the car's computer system to compensate if there is a change in airflow.

When I installed my CAI it made the throttle response much better compared to stock! I am still skeptical about tuners though. Are there any risks associated with them? I mean we are dealing with the cars computer system here..

I really don't care what the intructions say about it. If it's increasing airflow than there's a good chance that you're A/F is out of whack and could be doing damage to your motor without throwing a CEL.
A tuner should always be the first or second mod IMO. They are very worth it. I bought my Xcal2 for my 2004 F150. I used it on that truck, my 2006 F150, and now I'm using the same tuner on my 2008 Mustang GT. It's been one of the best purchases I've made.
I don't know any "reputable" tuner that will write a tune for $25. But you are correct, VMP's tunes are $50.

Well I have had my CAI on my car for about a year now and it works flawlessly! It said nothing in the installation instructions about an aftermarket tune. I am sure if it was so important they would recomend it.

Also Ford tunes all their cars including the Mustang on what they think the average person "*****" wants. You will get more horse better throttle response and the most out of your other mods with a tune for example CAI Exhaust and so on. Also the tune from the factory is for 87 octane so if you fill with premium which is usually min 91 octane you will also be getting the most out of your gas with a tune
Dollar For Dollar you can beata good tune!
