Not supposed to draw air from the bay that is heated. I know some don't use the sheild but.....................

Don't all these CAI suck some air from the bay? If the shield is air tight, seals against the hood, and only draws air from the inlet piping below (same as the stock box), then the airflow velocity should be pretty much the same. If not, then it has to get additional air from bay. That is unless your ram air hood or shaker hood dumps so much air into the filter area that cold air actually spills out into the engine bay.

KN has a gasket that seals off the under hood heated air.

The engine still draws what air it needs down the pipe. Doesn't matter the source on the end. KN says what???? 15 hp gain by the CAI alone? Yea right. I am not so quick to believe advertising hype that can be manipulated.
An open element air filter allows the engine to use less energy to draw the air it needs, which can free up a few more HPfor the rear wheels(not likely to be 15 HP without a tune). The engine will only take the air it needs in either case but with less effort with an open element filter. Just like if you breathe through a straw your body will get the air it needs but you will get tired.

Not really questioning that. Just is an open KN type filter open enough to challenge a CAI's claim?
I wondered that myself before and after I bought my intake. I've ridden dirtbikes for awhile and a basic mod to those is to remove any snorkels from the airbox and to cut them open a little more and then re-jet the carburetor. I suppose we could modify our stock airboxes for better flow but that wouldn't make too much sense. I imagine your set up with a drop in filter and tune works darn well. I like having a new intake. I like the sound.
