Default Stock Driveshaft Weight...WOW!

I just weighed the complete factory two-piece driveshaft setup.
Including the carrier bearing, bolts, spacers, and CV joint pinion flange
Everything thats removed for the installation of a Spydershaft.

....and the verdict is.... 46.0 lb on a calibrated electronic scale.
I think thats heavier than any published figure Ive seen.

Anyone know what the Spydershaft weighs with the Pinion Flange and supplied bolts?
I forgot to weigh mine. (I dont think the 16.5 lb includes the flange or bolts).

So I see you are doing the driveshaft, what about the 4.10s?? I got my LCA bushings replaced yesterday (one was split completely in half)and am heading to the track tonight to see how it holds up. Once the install is done, let me know how the spydershaft feels. Thedriveshaftwill probablybe my next mod, although my tax returns may be more than half way to a whipple HO, so who knows, I may just make that giant leap.

Def keep us posted on the track times. I'm very curious to see if you can really get 2 or 2 1/2 tenthes with the spydershaft. If it's possible, I know could do you it.

Americanspeed I already have it installed. I have a little vibration in the 68-110 mph range (I dont know about faster Im trying to stay out of jail)once it startsit doesnt seem to get any worse with speed. Its just a little buzz. Im not sure if its from the shaft or just less dampening of what the rearend already puts out. Its not much but I am going to try rephasing the driveshaft when I get a chance to see if it goes away. Im not sure I would have noticed it if I hadnt been so attuned to the possibility and the fact it manifest more through the shifter than anywhere else.

It defiantely feels like the foot is more directly connected to the rear tires. Just the normal shifts around town seem more direct and more positive. It also seems to help the car gain rpm quicker when you roll in at realtively low rpm.

I decided to wait on the 4.10's. I really want to see what I get from just the driveshaft.
Im really only expectiing about 0.15 but we will see.
It would be nice to have a pleasant suprise.

Good luck with the track now that you have your suspension issues taken care of.
At this time my car seldom wheelhops badily. I do get a little stutter on ocassion
However I suspect as the stock bushings age this will change.

howarmat - thanks for the link! Good info!

The article goes on to describe some of the vibration noise Gene K describes. Maybe this is it?

The one piece drive shaft will connect to the pinion gear at a different angle then the stock driveshaft. To compensate for this the adjustable LCAs are recommended. The Lower Control Arms (LCA) will need to be shortened to correct the pinion angle. Failure to do so will result in vibration at various speeds. The OEM pinion angle is between -2.7 and -3.

Steeda is right...adj LCAs are needed to prevent SOME form of vibration
