Default '05 GT v. G35 coupe; Opinions?

Prior to this weekend, I had narrowed my next car purchase down to the '05 GT or a slightly used G35 couple. That was until I drove both of them. They were both fast, obviously. I think it comes down to classy, soft, refined G35, or raw, edgey, thunderous GT. For me, it is the GT all the way. Has anyone else sized these cars up? What were your impressions?

before i bought my stang, i testdrove a 350Z b/c those were my two choices. the 350Z is faster than the G35 and both are slower than the stang. the one thing i liked much better about the 350Z was the handling but you can buy the entire saleen suspension kit and still be able to put an additional 4-6 thousand in your pocket rather than paying the extra for the infinity or the nissan. at that point, the stang would probably handle just as good, if not better than the infinity and you are still alot faster. you are right about the classy-ness of the Infinity but it all depends on what kind of person you are. do you want to look classy in a v6, or do you need that shear power and look in a car that yells "I AM A SPORTS CAR, DONT SCREW WITH ME!!!" as for me, i am only 23 and have plenty of time to suffice my midlife crisis in a car that screams sofistication. for now, i need me my stang...

I considered the G35. Took a couple of test drives. In the end, it didn't make the short list for three reasons:

1) very cramped interior. i'm not a big guy (weigh 160lbs) and it was just uncomfortably small. can't imagine having a passenger, much less people in the back seat.

2) the ignition key is an abomination in a $30k car that purports to compete with a 3 series BMW. it's just a standard, cheap, stamped metal nissan key with infiniti logo! sure, the '05 mustang key isn't euro slick either, but nobody expects it to be.

3) i really wanted at least 300 hp stock at the flywheel

Interesting Post....

The real issue is that the G35 is generally available at Infinity dealers.... whereas the GT in V8 is generally NOT available at Ford dealers.

The GT, if ordered now (late March 2005), will in all likelyhood be fulfilled as a 2006 GT, probably delivered from what I can see, in Sept 2005 or beyond. That is pretty much a 6 month+ wait.

To add to this, there is NO price protection by FORD on a 2005 order which is to be fulfilled by a 2006 GT. You will pay 2006 model prices and depending upon 2006 options (new) you may have to put in a change order to your ordered configuration.

hey cobera,

you dont have to necessarily order your mustang. i dont know where you are located but here in texas, there is a dealership with a couple GT's (manual), 2 roush's and 3 saleen's just sitting on the lot and that's not the only dealership with GT's just dying to be purchased by some lucky buyer

While I haven't been in a G35C (or 350Z) lately, I test drove both extensively about 1 1/2 ago.

The one thing that stood ou$20Kt about the g35c was the really cheesey interior and stereo for a car that sold for over $30K. The 350Z's interior was even worse.

Plus, the Mustang GT is faster and sounds better and is faster than either.

There is 300hp available for the G35 stock. It's a new option for 2005. Okay...298..

not faster by much...plus I'm not sure I'd agree with the GT times.. Aren't they 5.6 and 14.5? But then again look at the sponsor, Ford entusiasts

2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan 6.2 14.8
2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe 5.5 14.2
2004 Infiniti G35 Sport Sedan 6.2 14.6

2003 Nissan 350z 5.4 14.1

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

2005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 5.1 13.5 (MT Jan 05)

I agree though on the interiors regarding both the Infinity and Z cars though, you would think for what you pay for you would get better plastic at least....
