Default $800- $1000 To Paint GTS-3 Hood ???

I just got a quote for painting a GTS-3 hood. I totally wasnt expecting it to be this much. This guy does good work along with the cost of paint which he tells me has gone up quite a bit lately. I guess there's a lot of prep work that goes into it. What do you guys think ?...I suppose there is alwasy someone cheaper but sometimes you get what you pay for...

its a little high but there is a lot of prep sometimes and i would rather it done right and pay more than pay less and get a ****ty paint job. The hood is a huge part of the car. I was told 5-700 maybe for that hood around here in Indy.

I 'am wondering if should leave the underside unpainted being my car is white and the hood is also white, that would make it cheaper i guess. But I agree, I would radther spend a bit more and have it done perfect.

$800/$1000 is definitly super high...
I can't see myself charging a customer that much for painting a hood. UNLESS, it's a POS that needs to be reworked!!
Like the one I just did this week.[8D]In that case, just return the damn thing.

If your hood only needs minor prep (no blocking), THAN THE SHOP IS TAKING YOU FOR A RIDE!!!![:@] I don't care how good they are.
Paint labor and materials is not justified after $400, add $150 max to prep a decent hood and your total is way lower than that $800+.

Don't go there... Not honest. Unpainting the underside will save you about $100, so I'm not sure it's worth it. Your call.

Although, the price of paint (any petroleum substance) doubled, just like gas, the labor is the same. So instead of having $80 in materials, like 2 years ago, you now have #160.

I wish I could honestlycharge $800+ for painting a hood, I'll be rich. I can do 10 of those a day!

Go shop, get a bunch of estimates from other shops and it'll become clear to you.
Good luck.

Well, you're welcome.
When you get a hood, inspect it very carefully or have a bodyman do it for you.
Don't be affraid to rub your hands on it and try to detect wavyness, warpage and other major flaws.
