Once you go short throw, you'll never go back! Sorry about your problems, I also wondered if it could be clutch related..., but I really don't know about it.

I have this same issue, but mine will grind going into second. I put on a Steeda tri-ax shifter, and once in a while it is hard to get into 2nd. You can shim the shifter like mentioned earlier which helped me out a little. I think my is internal, does yours sound like it is stuck in gear during deceleration?

no not particularly.. sometimes putting it in first is really difficult, like it goes half way and completely stops, and I have to shove the damn thing. but then once it's in, I can usually take it out and put it back without trouble. it's just that first time. damn this sounds XXX rated LOL
I really hope it's not the clutch, I've only had the car a year!

As Howarmat mentioned CHE torque limiter or motor mounts along with a short throw will solve the problem.
If you like the look of your shifter you could go with a Pro 50 shifter and just re-use your existing shift ****.

You should not have any problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Before you buy a new shifter have the stealer fix the problem incase it in not the shifter. If you install an aftermarket shifter and the problem is not fixed the dealer may say it’s your fault. If the so called service representative does not think there is a problem then they should not have a problem letting you try another car to prove it. If another stock Mustang has the same condition as yours they may be right and your shifting problem is perceived. If that’s the case install an aftermarket shifter. If not they should fixed it. After you are satisfied that your new car is performing the way it is suppose to should you modify it. Always remember the salesman who sold the car doesn’t know the difference between your Mustang and a Focus. The service department can’t see the difference. It’s just a car to them. There theory is you are like a bad smell if they ignore it after a wile it will go away.
