You could get some Dynamat at any local audio shop. The only problem is that you will have to buy way more than you need.. I'd see if they have any scrap pieces from a recent install..
ah, thank you - i'll definitely give that a try.

Im just curious... You're positive your shifter is whats rattling? I know many many people, including myself, get shifter rattle straight from the transmission, not from a component on the shifter. Are you sure its just a nut or something coming loose or is the whole stick thunking/rattling?

well, i have both i believe. the tranny noise has been there since install of the pro 5.0. that i recognize and it really only becomes noticeable at speeds above 45 mph. the arm rattle is what i'm trying to eliminate, and i'm certain of the difference between the two because 1) the sounds are quite dissimilar, and 2) the arm didn't rattle for a few days after i re-tightened all the bolts and applied locktite (everything's still tight as can be, but i suppose things do loosen up minutely as one drives).

Interesting stuff... I wonder if its not a nut or anything. Maybe the base that sits in the shifter hole, or something else... I dunno.

Funny, you mentioned locktite. My favorite thing in the whole wide world.

i really hope it's not a nut or something that i'm not experienced enough to know about - i tend to think not, though, since it's really only at wot that the shifter rattles real bad.

and yes, i seem to remember reading some posts about you and your adventures with locktite

Buy the MGW shifter, it comes with dynamate and sound dampening material. Problem solved, plus its alot better shifter, with no rattles.

i have em installed already - not much help unfortunately. thanks, tho
Tried crushable washers yet? Might be the bolts rattling against their holes instead of the arm piece rattling, especially if it seems to go away right after you tighten them.
