Default Old fuel in new cars?

OK, we all know that most brand name pumps sell fuelthat should begood for about 3 months before starting to oxidize anddegrade into a varnish like substance. That's why we add fuel stabilizer to the tank when we store our cars for the winter - to extend the life of the fuel.

Now, if a new car sits on a dealer's lot for 8 months or more before it gets sold, I can only assume that the original fuel had turned into this gummy crapand plugged up the whole fuel system. My question is, would it be a good idea to run some fuel cleaner through the tank and to replace the fuel filter? Or, does the manufacturer or dealer add some stabilizer or otherwise prevents the fuel from going bad?

Default RE: Old fuel in new cars?

I would assume that since there is usually less than 1/4 tank gas in any new car, and people test drive etc. they 75% of the cars never will have that issue. That being said, my car was on the lot for a good 6 month or so before I bought it, but it was almost out of gas when I test drove it.

Guess it wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter
