Default NEW RECALL ON 2005 - 2008 MUSTANG'S

February 22, 2008
TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers
SUBJECT: DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD -Compliance Recall 08C02:
Certain 2005 -2008 Mustang Vehicles
Reprogram Restraint Control Module

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2005 through 2008 model year Mustang vehicles built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant from April 22, 2005 through January 31, 2008. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS.
REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL
The affected vehicles do not comply with one of the neck injury requirements specified in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208 -Occupant Crash Protection for an unbelted 5th percentile female sitting in the passenger seat while it is in the full forward position.

SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to reprogram the Restraint Control Module using IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) that is updated with release (R53.7) P16 or later. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. Do not demonstrate or deliver affected vehicles that remain in your new vehicle inventory until this compliance recall has been completed.

NOTE: Owners are encouraged to have this recall performed as soon as possible. Until this recall is performed, the vehicle owner can eliminate any real world risk associated with this noncompliance by making certain the front seat passenger wears the safety belt and positions the seat rearward, away from the airbag.

So this is the 90 lb weight requirement for the front passenger's air bag?

GidyupGo,

I realize that notification of this recall has been posted already. My thinking was that having a copy of the letter that was sent out to Ford Dealers may be helpful to members and answer some questions for them. I put it as a new thread soit would get the attention of those who have already seen the other thread, after all this is a safety issue.

I understand completely. It's already in Ford's system so the dealerships will pull it up when they run a VIN.

Do you know if this will include a change of the strategy code? Those with CAI and tunes want to know. I don't want to revert to stock to get this recall completed.

Well I won't be getting this done! I thought it might be something important.

Well I guess it's only importantfor a unbelted 5th percentile female sitting in the passenger seat while it is in the full forward position.

So here's the senerio. Your 12 year old daughter is riding in the front passenger seat, while her little brother is seated right behind her. You have an impact and the bag breaks her neck. That senerio fit's no one in my immediate family so I won't be the first to have it done, but sometime when I have it in there, might let em do it.
