Shady 3.73 gear install
Two years ago, I have 3.73's installed by what I thought was a good shop in the area. To make a long story short, my car is going to the dealer next week to get the clutches in the rearreplaced.
Its gonna cost me $700 bucks for the clutch replacement. [:@]
Just wanted to give share my 2cts that a shady gear install will sooner or later catch up to you like it did me.

RE: Shady 3.73 gear install
Not the gear install (unless they rebuilt the LSD while they were in there, in which case it's the LSD rebuild that might - and this is something of a stretch - be at fault).
A LSD wants to stay "locked" until different wheel speeds overcome the preload and wedging action.
The worst thing you can do is come out of tight turns with heavy throttle. Driveshaft torque increases the load on the clutch pack (tries to keep the wheels spinning at the same rpm) while the different rear wheel speeds forces it to slip anyway - or spin the inside rear lightly. If you've done much of this at almost autocross levels of use/abuse, two years is actually exceptionally long life.
Normal driving wears out a LSD in similar fashion to hard cornering with throttle, but at a MUCH slower rate.
As far as straight line driving goes, not a lot of slip occurs unless the clutch pack is already on the way out and it's getting closer to being an open diff.

Even that dont cost 700 bucks. A clutch rebuild kit is around 150 dollars, and 2.5 hours to install...

And, Ive been having "whining" problems ever since the 3.73's were installed, so they werent worn out by my driving alone.

Even if the gears "whine" I dont see how that would cause the tlok clutches to wear out. Was anything done to the Tok when the gears where installed?
