Buying a bike to save gas?

RE: Buying a bike to save gas?
If these gas prices ever become high enough for me to start worrying about my gas that much, I'll buy a Ninja 250 or 500. 55-70mpg with the 250R, plus is slow/small enough where I won't kill myself (easily).

If you are buying it for fun then go for it but if you are buying it for gas mileage forget it. I have ridden most of my life and always thought I was saving money. However, I have been w/o a bike for two years and I definately have more money in the bank than when I had the bike.

I thought about spending my stimulus check on the car, but with the price of gas rising and likely to rise more and stay there, i've decided to buy a motorcycle to offset the cost of gas. I figure it will pay for itself in a few years.
I average 17.x mpg and that's what the computer says. I haven't actually calculated it in awhile.
I'm looking for a 200X suzuki sv650 incase anyone has one cheap. I'd like to make it look like this eventually.

I figure if I ride the bike half the time to and from work it would average out to almost 40mpg between the bike and the car. That's assuming 60mpg on the bike.

A 250/500 is a fantastic bike to learn on and will really help you learn the basics (neccessities) of riding safely... but unfortunately a smaller displacement bike (than say a 600, 750 or 1000) is certainly not safer option just because it accellerates slower.
Crashing is crashing, no matter what bike you're on...
I've been blessed to have all my crashes happen on the track... so I just slid off into the runoff and popped up without injury (save for the time I got t-boned by an out of control dude on a motard) [:@]

RE: Buying a bike to save gas?
I sold myHonda VTX1300S Retroto buy my GT convertible.
The bike was $9,000 new and I put over $3,300 in accessories on it. Think I can talk my wife into letting me put the same percentage of the purchase price into my Mustang?
