From what I've seen here, big spoilers are considered "rice"?

It's very simple, race cars need them. Street cars don't. Race spoilers were never made as a figure of style, they were made as a component to keep the rear wheels down. Duck tail spoilers and the like are an element of style created back in the 60's accentuate the body of the car.
If you drive around in a car with a race spoiler on the street like it's the 24 hours of le mans, you don't look cool, you look like a jackass. You want to buy a car for track days, by all means put a race spoiler on it, just be ready to explain that to people to have taste for car design when they see your car on the street. This is why most people who can afford it, carry their track cars in trailers. (that and they aren't street legal)

well, big spoilers that are ugly, prepped and not painted, have parts missing and broken, and having other parts dangling off of it is rice.
however, there are big spoilers that do look good, IMO, isn't rice. Just overkill
jmo, though

the point is that large rear spoilers only serve a function above certain high rates of speed; most dd's never see those speeds, and that's why they have come to be known as "rice": they're superfluous. it's not about the spoiler per se, but about the car it's attached to. and besides, most who put them on their cars drive tired-***, beat imports which only make things even worse.

whats wrong with liking the race "look"? even if you dont see any track time. many people on the street try to immulate a look of some kind, wether it be retro or modern. i think each one of us is "looking" for a certain look or style. JMO

Most street cars are never going to see speeds and roads where a large spoiler is usefull. Maybe if the Nurburgring was part of my daily commute I would consider one.
