there was a write up but it involved like5 steps - didn't explain in depth what or how it was done. (wheels off, tape, sand paint, wheels on...) i guess i'll just play around with it next weekend and do an indepth write up. i would still like to get input fromthose who did paint their rims tho... pref before friday

I painted my wheels black, but I painted over the lip as well, so I cant answer you taping question. As for the general procedure, this is what I did.
1. Sanded with 80 grit.
2. Sanded with 600 grit.
3. One coat of primer
4. 3 coats of Duplicolor gloss black engine enamel
5. 3 coats of laquer (clearcoat)

80 grit seems like a bit much to me. I'd go with 320, followed with two-three coats of primer, followed by two or three coats of the Black Caliper Paint. I tried to use the wheel paint and that stuff is garbage. I used 3M Blue Painter's tape. Just take your time and try to get it as good as you can. It's not going to be perfect though, just know that.

80 worked fine, then the 600 cleans it up, thats the point.

80 to 600 is a HUGE difference, 320 is perfect and it's half the work .. to each his own.

someone did this on a thread so try searching. I remember seeing a pic of what I thought was dozens of mini Post-its all over his spokes!
But they turned out great so maybe he'll add more info.
