biggest nitrous shot (w/o BOOM) possible on stock block?
hey you guys, so for about a year now ive been kickin the idea around in my head of buildin a used s197 GT (try to get it for under 21k) 5 speed with skinnies up front/slicks out back, drag style suspension, then a ridiculous cervinis 4" cowl and a prostock spoiler and a good driver mod* (key!!) with the biggest shot of nitrous the stock 4.6 block could take. is that about 150? with the right suspension and tire set up with a competent driver and a 150 shot (or what ever biggest the block can take over and over again) i think i could be runnin a badass weekend strip car. (just a dream for now...low on cash ) just lookin for info. thanks guys.

RE: biggest nitrous shot (w/o BOOM) possible on stock block?
I do know a guy that posted in the 4.6L section has a dyno tune with a 150 shot of NOS and it is on the stock block and many of the responses were (I hope your block holds up..." and "be careful you might be on borrowed time...." etc. If I can find it I will link it to this post! Sounds like it should handle it but the tune needs to be spot on and DO NOT MISS A GEAR (if a stick) or the result would not be good at all (Kaboom!)....JMO but give me a sec to find.....J
EDIT: I found it but the responses were better than I thought.... so lets see if anyone else chimes in...

125 is the safe bet, but with a fuel system upgrade and injectors with some time on dyno with a good tuner I don't see why it wouldn't take 175 or higher.

I ran 150 for a couple passes on a complete stock longblock(internal-wise). Used a KB boost-a-pump for fuel pressure issue. On the dyno, we installed 150nitrous & 125 fuel jets. Put down around 440hp & close to 500 ft lbs. I ended up dropping down to a 125 with 100 fuel jets to be on the safe side. Put down 423hp & 481 tq. Run this setup a while, and was in the low 12sec 1/4 times with 1.9 60fts and traction issues in second(spun as soon as the nitrous hit).
I also ran gapped HT0 plugs, purge, heater, guages, wideband & fuel pressure guages at the time

i have ran a 125 on stocker for awhile and I would say 150 should be easy to do with no problem, just make sure your setup is done right.

I've heard of guys doing a 200 shot for an extended period of time... but I wouldn't recommend it
He finally went kaboom after using a 250 shot for a few runs...

Not really, but kinda.
An auto will produce more consistant times over a manual due to the different shifting tecniques. Both can be fast, driver skill being most important.
