Also look at this testing done the one with the highest HP gain had no heat shield

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...ck_airbox.html

So explain that?
Ok yeah the JLT I in that test has the most power.....so why did they make a JLT II with a heat shield if the non heat sheld version was the best CAI out there

The stock airbox is designed to shield out heat, protect against moisture, and reduce sound. Your modification negates all three. At this point, you might as well stick a conical filter on the end of your stock MAF/inlet tube and call it a day.

You should drill some holes in your mufflers. Less back pressure and it sounds bad a$s.

Yep.

You also have to take into account that dyno runs are done with the hood open. Driving around/racing with your hood closed a whole different ball game.

It will obviously allow more airflow than the factory box would closed. This is an old trick thats been used since the early days of airboxes. The issue of underhood heat isn't that big of a deal while the car is moving, the ambient air is still coming from the front and pushing the heat from the engine out under the car not forwards into the airbox. It might have been better to have not cut the rearmost wall of the box, but overall it will allow considerably more airflow than the closed box, while not as much as a CAI.

It was the "tune" not the intake.

It does help! You may have gone a little over board on it, but it is helpful. This is what we and Saleen do for box cutting. I remember Justin at VMP drilled approx. 2" hole in the side of the air box on his GT500. He picked up 9+ RWHP from it.

As far as the CAI with their "heat sheild", my opinion is they do help, but are not near a 90-100% in closing/sealing off under hood /engine heat. As always, just like back in our fox body days, place the filter in the inner fender

Casey
