is it ok to run 10% etahanol with a tune? can get 94 octane here but it is 10% ethanol.

yep

most places in the country have 10 percent in the gas. just stay away from the "E 85" unless you want to make fuel system upgrades/repairs

Better to not have ethanol, The only 93 octane I can get is also 10% ethenol, so I stick with the 91 octane tune.

Never heard of anything bad about ethanol being in the gas... Keep in mind the millions of cars that use the ethanol gas, a mass-produced everyday car like the Mustang will be the last to have a problem with it.

Where I work we have a large fleet of trucks and per government regulations, 90% of our fleet has to run on E85. We are currently in the process of auctioning off our Rangers as they had alot of problems and we are replacing them with F150's. Most of the Rangers ran on E85. They all have constant problems with gaskets, certain parts melting, just alot of drivetrain problems. The ones we ran on 87 octane had nowhere near the problems. We also have some full size F150s, Rams, and Silverados, also with problems with E85. The same engine can also run on 87 octane. The ones on 87 run and last so much better, they don't see the garage near as much.

E85 doesn't get near as good mpg either, so the price difference really doesn't do much with more problems and less gas mileage. A good friend of mine also has a GMC Sonoma, which he was craxy about E85, until he started having problems. His engine started ticking and he started getting catalytic converter problems, just like the Rangers. I don't use E85, so I can't speak from personal experience, but seeing the reports from the garage about the fleet, and seeing my friend in such bad moods just from driving his truck back and forth to work, it's just not worth it. Maybe one day, but from what I have seen, I think hydrogen will find it's way into vehicles as a regular type of fuel faster then E85. just my opinion. :)

Right, thats E85. But the guys above are talking about regular gas with ethanol in it.

but ethanol gets only about half the MPG of gasoline, so if you are running 10% ethanol, that's a significant drop in MPG. I don't see any price breaks for running 10% ethanol either. It's $3.30 per gallon no matter what you buy.

I kick myself every time I see "10% Ethanol" hidden somewhere on the pump.....I always see it after I fill up.

The reason they use ethanol is to get rid off water in gasoline so it doesn't freeze in the winter time. Ethanol and water mix and are burned together in the combustion chamber. Nothing wrong with ethanol !!!

Ethanol decreases MPG by 25% not 50% or with 10% a total of 2.5%. Ethanol has an AMAZING octane rating, however, so less ping reducing agent (which gets 0 mpg when compard to ethanol's 75%) can be used.

All in all you break about even power wise for ethanol 10% (maybe 1%+ less), unfortunatly if indeed it reduces reliability, it's a BAD idea to use the stuff.

Right.

Around here, you simply don't find gas without 10% ethanol unless you go to the track.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 10% ethanol. E85 is a completely different story. While it helps the environment, you burn way more of it, so really you're not saving anything. It's fantastic for a drag car, though!

Add to all that, I read in the newspaper today, that the corn crop was affected by all the weird weather we've had across the nation. Guess what: fuel prices expected to rise - due to ethanol being affected by the corn crop failures.

I recall reading somewhere that ethanol has recently been proven to actually be worse for the environment too. We just can't seem to win it seems. Hopefully biodeisel will be okay...don't know what we'd resort to after that.

eh, I pulled up to the local Hess and saw a"contains 10 % or less ethanol" label on every octane and every pump, so I went someplace else. I'd just as soon stay away from it if possible. I don't need to worry about my cats cause I ain't got none.:D

But I'm thinking it would be a good idea to maybe go with a new fuel filter every 15k if you're going to subjected to ethanol.

When I first installed the CAI and 93 tune I'd use Sunoco's 93 octane with 10% ethanol. Didn't think much about it. Car ran great. Then I read on this forum (this was many months ago) the same comments as above...don't use ethanol if you can avoid it. So I switched to Exon 93. I got a tell you, its better. Its a subtle difference but the car does get better MPG and seems a little smoother, more responsive. Fortunately its easy to find in PA.
