Change cluster color w/o mycolor?

Hey guys, is it possible to swap out bulbs on the instrument cluster that doesn't have mycolor?

You have to be real good at soldering, the LEDs are surface mount, but is has been done

It is easier than that. It's called spending $250 and putting in a Mycolor guage cluster and switches... ;)

Yeah, but what about the labor to install the cluster and switches, gets a little more than 250

Does anyone know where to get the cluster and buttons? Maybe a link? A good friend of mine has a base Gt and wants to add mycolor. :)

Do a search for "Ed Olsen" on these forums and call him. Disconnect battery. Take out your cluster (4 screws after popping over the cover) and remove the wire from the back (It's just.. one... wire...) Put that in the box he sends you and ship it back. Put in your new cluster (same wire, same spot, same screws, same spots,) replace covering. Pop open blank button part (the 3 buttons on the upper left of your center console) using a flathead screwdriver. Pop it off, take the wire out of the back of it and connect it to the new switch. Install new switch. Reconnect battery, turn on car and enjoy.

You will PROBABLY have to get it reprogrammed.

Go to the dealership. Don't try an explain to the service rep what you want done. Just tell them you want to talk to the tech in charge of computer and electrical. Tell him you want the "AS BUILT" programming. If he doesn't understand, tell it to him again. If he still doesn't understand, call me. I'll explain it to him (all I'll really say is "AS BUILT" and somehow he'll get it...)

PM me for my number if you're that desperate.

Total cost:
The new cluster = $260
Core = $300 - REFUNDED WHEN HE GETS IT BACK.
Switch = $38
Reprogramming = $85 or so. Depends dealership.

Total = $383 or else it's $683 if you feel like being a sadistic bastard to yourself.

Total time:
Replacement = 30 minutes
Reprogramming = 40 minutes
Wait time in dealership = too long

Total = 1 and a half hours including wait time.

All the tail you're gonna get because girls think it's so hawt = priceless.

That should just about cover it...

i did the switch, never had to have mine reprogrammed either....you can always put it in and see....if it works, you are good to go and no trip to the dealer.
