bad synchro's?

hey guys.....i have a 5-speed.....4:10 gears....B&M shifter....and installed the k member with torque limiters about 4 months ago.....now when i go from 1st to 2nd in high rpms(above 4500) it wont go into gear and it makes a grinding noise [:@]....so i have to double-clutch it to make it work....it doesn'tdo this through any of the other gears.....i dont have tools at my apt right now so i took it to a local shop and had the transmission fluid checked....said it was just a hair low and it was a little tinted but still had about 20k left with it......a friend of mine told me to just replace the fluid totally and see what it does........what do you guys think???

Replacing the fluid could help...

But anyways, I've long been against the torque limiters.... The tranny jumps around for a reason, because it needs to relieve stress. If you stop the tranny from move around, then the internals will take all of the stress.

Anyways, after I put on my torque limiters I got heavy heavy clunking from the tranny. It got worse. So I uninstalled them and everything has been fine... Though still very clunky. Maybe just uninstall yours and see if things get better.

Theres a reason only CHE made torque limiters, because Ford-supported companies like Steeda, Rousch, and Saleen have enough research and information to know not to hold the tranny tight.

Damn...I am getting ready to install my k-member and torque limiters this Monday along with my Spec 3+. Now i am not sure what to do regarding this mod...Ohnoesaz brings up some interesting points.

No he doesn't. The torque limiters arent going to cause any harm to your car. If anything they will help prevent wear and tear by allowing a cleaner entry into the gates in your transmission.

Just think about it... Why use a 2 piece driveshaft, or let the tranny jump around? Ford doesn't do that randomly. Its designed that way. Same with the weight of underdrive pulleys. These items are meant to dampen things.

Have I put a video under the car and verified the tranny jumps around alot? Of course not. But the fact that CHE invented the torque limiters tells you enough right there. After I installed them my entire car would shake because the tranny shakes so violently and now it was being held to the car.

If you hold the tranny tight then something has to give, plain and simple. Components inside the tranny will take all of the stress now.

I dont think hes screwed, he can uninstall them like I did and stop more damage from happening. And I dont guarantee everyone will run into problems. But I know what happened to me, and Im pretty sure its whats happening to him, so people can take that for what its worth....

Adidas - Sounds to me like your 1-2 Synchro.

+1 on the 1-2 synchro. Take the CHE brace off and get it to the dealer for warranty..

RE: bad synchro's?

crap....thanks acrokat.... thats what i was afraid of.....if i have a B&M shifter and 4:10 gears would it void the warranty on the synchro replacement?
