Default S/C, Fitch fuel catalyst and a 87 octane tune?

I was reading some threads about S/C's and proper tunes. I was wondering since gas prices are so high (like in CA) and it seems to me that everyone tries to get a 93 or 91 octane tune, so what if you installed a fuel catalyst (fitch fuel catalyst is about $175) and had a 87 octane tune? would that work? and would it save you money???

I don`t have a definitive answer, but, the "Horsepower TV" guys tested the Fitch on amodified engine bolted to a dyno. Ran it on high octane, drained the tank etc. Made less HP on lower octane fuel with the Fitch plumbed in the line. Sketchy on the details, anybody else see it?

I saw the Horespower TV clip and yeah, they did make less power, but not much less. However it did show that the engine ran more economically on a lower octane than with the straight up premium. Also, it is advertised that you can go down one grade of gas. For example, 93-91, 91-89, etc. It is not recommended to be installed so you can run 87 in a car needing 91 or 93. I'm running one on my car right now but I still use premium gas. I'm doing this because I am from NY where 93 is available but I go to school in AZ where I can only get 91, and I go back home over the summer. This way when I'm in places with 93 I can run 93 but when I'm here in AZ with 91 I don't have to worry about changing my tune. Please, no one bash me for that. I've ran it like this for months and there has not been a single ping, knock etc. and the car still runs like a beast. However, I would not risk it with a supercharger. You can still run the can for some slightly better fuel but I would not run less than what is recommended.
