I removed mine and replaced with circular foam (27" x 6") with cut outs for first aid kit, small tool box and 12v tire compressor kit from TireRack (ContiComfortKit, similar to the ones installed in Bullitt by SVT I believe). Anyway, it saved weight, holds more emergency items and still acts as spare tire (also counts as a mod for the MCA Modified Mustang Class! :-)

GT500's do not come with a spare, they have an emergency inflation kit, apparently a rim that would fit the spare area is too small to go over the GT500 brakes. Carry a plug kit & small compressor & a phone.

Thanks guys. I guess the big question is which would be more beneficial, MORE weight above the rear wheels for traction help or LESS weight above the rear wheels. My guess is less weight is better, especially since I'm a convertible and I already have a little more weight back there than you coupes.

I wonder how effective Fix-a-Flat cans really are? God bless cell phones.
I thought GT500's came with that self-inflating/foam injection unit in the trunk?

Edit: Damn it [:@] I fail to read entire threads...

if your 35 miles off the interstate on some back country road in indiana at 6:00 in the mourning and no cell signal and a mustang that was 2 weeks old and an alarm going off saying low tire pressure(which i did'nt know it had) you would wish you had a spare,i changed it in the dark on a gravel drive way with my wife holding a lighter, telling me to call AAA,in 15 minutes i was back on the road with a ugly spare tire thanks to a 16 penny nail off some farmers tractor. who would want to sit on the side of the road and wait for help????

Valid point !!!
But a plug kit, fix-a-flat, and air compressor would allow me to at least drive the car slowly to a safer place, no?

Tire sealers work maybe 50% of the time if your lucky and catch the leak in time.

Sort of off topic, a tire sealer will void the tires warranty.
I
nteresting what would happen if you had a flat on a GT500, filled it with sealer and went to a Goodyear shop. Sorry sir, you voided the tires warranty, lol. Not that punctures are warranied anyway, but........
