It is all part of the shifter assembly. Truely I probably got jacked, it's a racket... but such is life. I would think that there are some stock shifters out there that have been replaced with shifters that didn't need that piece, but I'm not familiar with all the other after market shifters.

this blows- i, like you Gman, have to spend 300 dollars on a stock shifter. after i spent 300 on a MGW. no one around here has a junked s197....

did you break the bolt during install or did it back on it's own?

2 weeks after the install i jacked the car up and was changing oil - decided to make sure everything was still tight down there. the bolt that i snaped off isn't even really part of the install for any shifter - the black bar connects to the base of the shifter and that connects to the transmission. too many beers i guess.

so one the other side of that black piece it a bolt that is welded to it somehow?then it slides through and the nut goes on it?

why couldnt you just remove it,cut the old bolt off,drill a hole through the black piece and use a real bolt to all the way through?
