Some of the shots on that guys site are neat, but not really HDR as HDR is meant to be used. If you don't process in RAW, and don't properly map the 32 bit images down to 16 bit, you get the posterized look of some of these shots. HDR done right is supposed to look like a normal picture, except a much wider range of light and dark have detail. Just like our eye can detect detail in a very wide dynamic range, the picture is supposed to do the same.
That's exactly how I do mine. I have trouble getting that over-filtered look. It's the purist photographer in me that will not allow me to make those overfiltered ones. Most people just starting out in HDR want to create a crazy looking image, because it shows they've done something to it. Once you realize the reason for HDR, you start toning it down. BTW, that photo posted of mine earlier, was the only one I've posted in the last 2 weeks that's NOT HDR. It was just LucisArt. In a few minutes I'll post a standard exposure beside an HDR to show the difference.

Here's some of my recent HDRs.

And for fun, here's an overfiltered one I've done.

Ok, here's a before an after. Also, the final result on this one did not have any other post processing at all. Everything was done with tone-mapping. See how HDR brings out the sky, and the details in the shadows, like the wheels. The small photos are the three original. The exposures in order are +2, 0, -2
