3.31's? I would have at least gone with 3.55's, come on now

I'll apply your logic tonight as I try to explain to my wife why I am paying $6,000 for a supercharger, I am sure she'll buy it. Anyway I am having my 3.31s put back in my car on Saturday and the supercharger installed on April 8th.

i will disagree on the most bang for the buck...that would be nitrous...but anyway superchargers are at least 3500 to start....gears/intake/tune are mods that u will definetly notice difference and thats a total of...1100 and thats including the cost of the install of the gears....trust me the gears are worth it

The guy who installed my gears will put the 3.31s back in for free, if I go with anything else I have to buy new gears and pay for the labor. I can always change them later if I need to.

I disagree.
My mileage hasn't noticably decreased.
3--Your miles per gallon decreases from 16 to 12 after installing gears (which seems common for going to 4.10s)

If you want to talk about a good mod for the money, CAI is the way to go. It actually improves your MPG slightly, and definitely doesn't hurt it.

Warmachine, I disagree that 5th gear is worthless. In city driving, I shift into 5th gear around 45-50 mph and I get over 19mpg with a couple of full throttle runs up to 50 every day. As long as you aren't trying to climb hills, 5th gear still has a little bit of pull at 50. These cars are very fuel efficient if you are easy on the gas pedal most of the time and then really punch it when you want to have fun instead of doing sort of quick accelerations every time.

I always questioned why if there were no draw backs to going with larger gears like 4.10s, why didn't Ford just put these in the Mustang right out of the factory? After all, it basically costs the same to produce 4.10 gears as the 3.3 gears, so cost wasn't the reason to go with 3.3 gears. Instead, there had to be something that made 4.10 gears less attractive to consumers, and that might be miles per gallon. So, even though you don't think your's has changed, I think that might beunrealistic based on what I've read.

Ford should put 3.55's as the base gear and have 4.10's as the option instead of the 3.55's.
