I rented a Shelby GT-H last April and that was one thing I noticed - there were definitely marks in the hood from the lanyards on the one I rented. It didn't have many miles on it either - but I also noticed that the paint had major swirls in it so it is possible that the lanyard marks were from bad wash technique as well.
