Default To Oil Or Not to Oil???

I have a FRPP CAI. I was actually told by a rep on the FRPP Tech hotline NOT to re-oil the filter after I clean it. ( He also said clean only at 50k mile intervals!!! The dirt actually helps it work better?? ) His reasons were that people tend to over oil it, screwing up the MAF sensor, and attracting too much dirt. So just avoid that situation by not oiling it, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, although he said not to re-oil the filter, why does it come oiled new then? I'm a little paranoid about not doing it, I'm feeling some dirt I could be trapping is getting through.

What do you guys think about this?

I never heard of NOT reoiling an oiled filter after cleaning and the recommendaton to clean at 50k miles is totally wrong.

His thinking may be that not all the oil gets washed out after cleaning, and if you re-oil it, it could be overoiled. I have had oil/MAF sensor trouble on an F150 that had an oiled filter. Took me an hour with some alcohol and Qtips to clean those little wires. The 50K mile recomendation is correct as stated in the written information supplied with the filter. What sucks is they rely on dirt to help filter the dirt. What's wrong with this? You need to clog up the filter some before it gets up to speed filtering the other dirt. That tells me initially, it doesn filter very well.

Wow, we learn something new every day. But I'd think that having the dirt provide some filtering would negate some of the benefits of the extra airflow we expect from the CAI.

I'm sure it does. Better filtering, but less air. Just the nature of the beast. I don't think it chokes down the air enough to lessen performance. Just listened on the KN web page. It say 50K miles for normal driving, and 30K miles if in dusty desert.

My understanding is that oiling and cleaning your CAI too often will mess with your sensors.Doing it sooner than 30K is too soon unless you check it and it really needs it (i.e. notice in mpg drop).
