I have been bouncing several car purchases around. Been looking at a Noble...but really like the '05 stang.

I'd like your POV on the supercharge saleen vs the gt500....spefically on long term value, performance and handling...of course anyother points are welcome.

id go with the gt 500 personally. actually if i had the kind of money your looking to throw around id get a caterham super 7. but thats just me.

First of all, there are 2 different supercharged Saleens for 05. The S281sc is a 400 hp car and bases at 44k, and the S281E is a 500 hp car that bases just above 60k. On the long term value aspect, it comes down to the # built. Less Saleens will be built than GT500's in 06, so the Saleens will hold their value better. The longer you hold on to a Saleen vs the gt500, the bigger the value difference will become. As far as performance goes, for the $ it's hard to beat the 5.4 motor, especially if you wanted to mod it. -But if you kept the car stock, it will be a little faster on the 1/4 mile the S281sc but not as fast as the S281E. When you get into handling, the Saleens will outperform the gt500. Hands down. The GT500 is probably most comparable to the 400 hp S281sc. The S281E gets some extra suspension mods and comes with an all alumunim, all forged motor, as well as a 6 speed and huge brakes. The S281E isn't really a fair comparison to the new GT500. -But, it does cost a decent amount more. The S281E will hold it's value the best because there will be very few of them. They will build around 30 E cars a year. The bottom line is for long term value, the Saleen is the best investment.

I think birdieman broke it down pretty well. The deal is that the saleen gets you into the saleen community. The E is way overpriced if it were some mass produced special edition mustang (when compared to the GT500). Certainly it's hard to argue against the GT500s larger 5.4L Forged twinscrew blown 32valve engine, especially if the Saleen is still sticking with a basic 24 valve 4.6. Unless you want the exclusivity, and the less common looks of the Saleen, get the Cobra.

I'm not sure if the extreme saleen is out yet and I know the GT500 isn't out yet. So why are you already trying to compare the two? You're going to have to wait for the cars to come out for people to have an informed opinion.

The first Extreme will be out in June, this year. My estimations will be accurate. The price will be interesting on the GT500. I talked to a dealer today about it, and they are charging 10k over sticker for pre-orders. On top of that, the original 40k base price looks like is gonna be more like 45k at this point, -according to the sales manager. If you wanted a GT500, and the sticker was 45k + 10k dealer markup + tax and options your are looking at 60k+. Thats S281E territory.
