To the OP - If you crank the wheel to its FARTHEST point while sitting still, and it whines like you were describing above, then it's the power steering, and is normal. Every car I've ever owned has done this to one degree or another.

If it only does it while MOVING and turning, then I'd get it to the dealer and have the rear end checked out.

not a normal noise.... the only car I've been in that's made that noise is my roommates '95 hondaaccord.....[&:]

mine started a couple months ago,
sounded like a steering problem.

last weekend while cuttin a u-turn in a cul-d-sac
windows down,skipper off,
noise came from the ***-end this time....

someone did a "diy" post on puttin a wrench to tightin something back there...
