RE: SeaFoam treatment

I was getting pinging after a dyno tune. The A/F ratio was right on. I thought it might be timing, so I had them take some timing out. Still had pinging. Then I thought it might be carbon buildup, so I did a Seafoam treatment and the pinging went away immediately.

I've used Seafoam on my 82 Corvette and it works pretty good. It's a good cleaner and my Corvette ran smoother afterwards. We always recommened it to customers when I used to work for a smog station.

On old carb. engines we would pour a little water down the carb with a fast idle to clean the carbon build up. I wonder if this is all it is.

Seafoam is the only fuel treatment you will ever need to use or purchase. I learned about it from the marine industry having been a outboard owner for over 20 years. 2 cycle outboards have a far greater carbon problem than 4 cycle engines. There is nothing better at removing carbon or keeping it from building up. Gas these days is garbage and running a can of Seafoam 2 or 3 times a year will make a considerable difference in the potential carbon problem we have with the spark plug issue. For those of us who store our cars during winter it also acts as an fuel conditioner.

You cannot go wrong with this product and it does not have to be used every oil change as someone suggested. I use a couple cans per summer and maybe on can over the winter to keep moisture out.

Been using it and will continue to use it every 10,000 miles or so. :D

So you just add this stuff to a full tank of gas?

I think this product is basically a placebo in a can. You hear the buzz about it. But does anybody really know if it works? ...as in proof.

Having said that, it's in both my lawnmower and cycle's gas tank right now for winter storage reasons.

i put in my f150 every other month ...1/3 can in the gas tank, 1/3 in the intake (via vaccum line...i.e. brake booster line) 1/3 can in the crankcase via the oil. run it for about 5 minutes in the driveway, and when the smoke clears from the tail pipe... she purrs like a kitten.
