Which rear end gear?

Which rear end gear?
Okay so I've been all over looking for a reasonable explination and have not found any yet. So hopfully someone here can help me. I am aware that 2005-2008 Mustang GT's can have either a 3:31 or 3:55 rear gear. So tell me are the 3:55 the only ones that are limited-slip or can the 3:31 be limited-slip as well? And besides that if I were to buy a car of these model years how would I be able to tell which one it has?

The gear ratio is the only difference. Buying new, on the window sticker. Used? Tag on the rear end, or the Ford parts dept. can tell you with the last 6 or 8 digits of the VIN#
