Default Free flowing mufflers for HP / TORQUE gains?

Hey, all!
Here's another one for ya - conventional "board" wisdom says - "no HP advantage no matter which muffler, no matter what!"
Well - the vendors talk about "freer flowing" and Borla claims "highest flowing" for stingers. Or some such. You get the idea!
When I replaced the stock V6 muffler on my 98 Camaro V6 coupe w/ the Z28 muffler, it flowed better, and the car
performed better. Felt less constricted. The K&N filter also helped a little. Lack of a tuner for that V6 was a limiting factor.
Anywho - if there is zero difference between ANY of these aftermarket exhausts - why bother?
Yes, they sound different, but woulnd't that 19 yr old w/ the hopped up GT - if there is no diff in exhausts - put some Buick
luxury exhaust on so he could roll up to girlfreinds house silently and do her on the dining room table? While the folks
are asleep?
Let's kick it around!
Love to you all - Tuh.. Tii.. uh, uhhgrr - rggghhh - TIMMY!

Why would you want a silent Mustang????!!! You swap the stockers for aftermarket mufflers because they look better (bigger tips/chrome/ect) and they sound louder/meaner/deeper.....if I wanted a silent car I would have gotten a damn yaris.......Mustangs are meant to be heard and guzzle gas. I get tired of those threads about "will 4.10's ruin gas economy"...."my car drones at 1800 RPMS what to do".......Its a V8 American made car meant to ride hard and sound tough[sm=rant.gif]...........BTW PLEEEEEASE stop writing your name like that at the end of each post[:@]

Was thinking more of the performance aspect - gotta think some stuff flows better than other stuff.
Thank you for replying, Mike. Sometimes I think I'm alone out here!

Alone? In this busy forum?

I think yours is the first thread I've come across inquiring about having a quieter Mustang.

unless you are F/I a "freeer flowing" muffler will equal less back-pressure and a loss in torque, such as the loss that is felt when stingers, loudmouths, and boomtubes are put on.

I didn't notice any difference when put my stingers on. Just a meaner sound.

The stock mufflers on the GT's are pretty darn free flowing for stock, as is the entire exhaust. You'll get some gains and sound by losing the cats and installing LT's and an o/r H pipe.
