OEM Hood Scoop install question

OEM Hood Scoop install question
Hey guys,
For those of you that have installed the OEM scoop or any aftermarket scoop, I have a preparation question. When it comes to removing the hood liner, what kind of tool did you use to remove the fur trees holding the liner in place? Is there a tool you need to buy to do it correctly without damaging them? I would rather do it the right way the first time and if that means buying the tool, I’m fine with that?
Is there any other advice you guys can give me before I start the job? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dwayne

Yes, there is a tool that will slip in between the head and the liner and pry them out without damaging them. I got mine with an audio order some time ago but an auto parts place should have one also.

RE: OEM Hood Scoop install question
try this from an earlier post. scroll down to the 5th post. i made a tool like this using a brake spoon and cutting a notch in the middle. also use a small plastic putty knife under the tool when prying the pins out, that way you dont scratch your paint or damage the liner.

RE: OEM Hood Scoop install question
There is an old school tool known as a door panel removal tool.
Its a wide flat slightly curved blade with a slot in the middle to
get under the tree fastners head and remove them with no damage.
Also be sure and use a drill bit sharpened for METAL and not the average
hardware store wood bit which will bite into the aluminum hood and corkscrew
possably tweaking or damaging the hood.

Yeah there is a tool that makes it easier. I just used alarge tip screwdriver with no issues other than dropping 2 in the engine bay somewhere. Autozone carries them if you lose any.
