Penzoil Platinum

RE: Penzoil Platinum
It will be fine. Is it the best? I don't know if it is or isn't. I do know that I used the regular non synthetic Pennz for over 30 years with no oil useage or oil releted breakdowns racking up over 2 million miles on various vehicles. I also know that a few years ago, they spent mega millions updating their refineries. It's not about what oil you use, but more about how often you change the oil. I stay with the 3000 mile interval.

penzoil=cheap ol' oil every cheap oil change place gets paid to use and advertise, and is the bottom rung at those places

I will be using Pennzoil Platinum and a Purolator Pure one filter on my first oil change. Some GTO owners were saying their cars run quieter with Pennzoil Platinum.

It used to be the best you could get before synthetic came out. Rick Mears won I don't know how many Indycar races with the stuff with Penske.

I think people in here are confusing Pennzoil yellow bottle junk with what you're talking about, which is the new silver bottle "Platinum". And yes, I've been using it for a few months. Its hard to notice performance changes with just oil, but its a good piece of mind to use something that bobistheoilguy.com forum members love. Its used-oil-analysis is currently the best of any oil on the mass-market, and even better than Redline and others from the smaller sector. I won't count Amsoil since its not even API certified and shouldn't be ran in any car engine.
Mobil1 used-oil-analysis tests have been poor lately, showing thinning at high temperatures and from aging. Its shearing more easily at high temps too. This is why I needed to find a new oil. Pennzoil Platinum may not make my engine purr or something like that, but its a good piece of mind to know I'm running what the current world considers the best. It will probably changing in a few years and PennPlat will be junk like Mobil1, but I'll just have to find the new good oil when the time comes.

RE: Pennzoil Platinum
There are three big issues with dino oils that we care about: Less cooling help, possibly moresludge, more shearing at high RPM/temps
Generally speaking, dino oils are just as good as synthetics if you change it out every 3-4K.
But, the three issues above are important to us because, unlike normal cars, our cars see 4K-6K RPMs daily, and high heat depending on how hard we drive them for how long. As for sludge.... You can prevent dinio sludge with oil changes and a working PCV system, but the fact that its more likely is still bad.
I still maintain I think motorcraft 5w-20 blend, or the full synthetic, is the best for our cars..... I hate to say it, but I think Ford really did get it right with that oil. Like I've said previously, if I wasnt so hooked on PP then I'd run motorcraft.
