RE: 275/45R18 on stock 8.5" rims?
^ I just put 275/40 HTR Z II`s on the stock 8.5" wheel
Sumitomo recommends a minimum of a 9" wheel for this tire. Visually I see no difference in sidewall "bulge" between this and the 255/45`s I mounted on the front. Drives fine and has a sharper feel and quicker turn in than the stock BFG`s.
Car has Eibach Prokit springs, no fitment issue

255 is the widest you should go on 8.5 rims.

I did a search on tirerack for various brands of 275/45/18 tires. Of the 2 tiresthat I sampled, 8.5" was the minimum recommended width.

is there a way you can tell how wide your tire is without taking it off?

275/45 are approved on an 8.5 rim from several companies. the issue as i recall is that they are pricey and found on high end cars for the most part
I went with 265/40 DRs as an alternative
