Default K&N filter cleaning

I've cleaned my filter, now I'm re-oiling it with the spray can. I used about 1/4 of the can on the first pass, thinking that would be enough, but the clean sidewas still white after 30 minutes. Do most people use the whole can? I made a second pass at it and have now used about 2/3 of the 6.5 oz spray can. At least the clean side is starting to turn red. I don't want to overdo this and possibly get oil in my intake.

Worst thing about over oiling it get on your MAF and all kind of problems after that. Someone on here post some MAF cleaner they bought from Autozone and it does work good I have tried it myself. Before you finish you might want to go buy some incease you do have a problem.

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid.

Well, I actually ended up using about 1/2 the can. The biggest trouble areas that were not soaking up the oil (through to the cleans side) were the super dirty pleats around the edges. I probably should have cleaned that area better with the cleaner. They were still a little dark after cleaning.

I gave those pleatsone last spray. Gonna let it soak for about an hour, install that sucker and see what happens.

My suggestion to anyone doing this is get that filter ultra clean so it soaks the oil well. I thought I had, but guess not.

It can be kind of a myth. On K&N's site, they claim no such issue happens with the MAF sensor, but for me on a F150, it did. I used alcohol and Qtips to clean those little wires on the sensor. But, the filter I got came with oil almost dripping out of it. This was 8 years ago and maybe the have refined their oiling process.

The website says to spray both sides lightly (which would have been the easy way), but the instructions I used that came with it said to spray the dirty side and let it soak through until the clean side is evenly red(which I did).

If I had it to do over again I would probably use a small amount on both sides.

And yes, the website says no way that oil can leave the cotton fabric, at least with the amount that they use. Of course, they would say that.

how many miles did the filter last you before needing to clean and lube it?

Is this for a CAI or is it the drop-in filter?

I did some digging on this topic when I cleaned by Steeda filter a few months ago. I found a couple of siteson MAF issues and one of themrecommended using brake cleaner to clean the MAF. I used it and it simply evaporated away. I thought I wrote a 'how to' but it did not get stickied...prolly considered too easy of a procedure.

This is a drop in..........I went 20K miles without cleaning it. It cleaned up pretty good, but I would suggest doing it more often.

Car seems to be running a bit better so far.

In the magazine they proved it was a myth because it does not contaminate every kind of maf sensor and not in every vehicle. GM trucks are the worst because they use there maf is like 1" from the filter. You need the lightest coat of oil after you clean it...And let it dry a little before you put it back on if you can.
