I drop mine from about 8-12 inches. I was told by a salesmen that a few Mustangs were coming back with spider cracks in the paint and it was from pushing it closed.

Here's more useful entertainment for you...
I replace the latch spring with a wicker one and now my hood closes from a 2 inch drop
.

Never a good idea to slam shut an aluminum hood...
