RE: $15 Catch Can project
I've been checking on the livernois 298cid shortblock. I prefer having a shortblock ready and well built than taking mine to a local machine shop and buying a rotating assembly.
Talk about of thread hijacking. Sorry.
BTW, that is a nice alternative you found there, I went another route with this oil thing.
Post if you can how much oil do you collect overtime.
And do you think the plastic can will hold the temperature well?

RE: $15 Catch Can project
Catch can is cool. I used the bigger Kobalt version, fits about 3x the oil. I'm not sure what hose you used, but make sure it handles vacuum well, because mine didnt. I had to switch to expensive braided lines.
goodjob though

RE: $15 Catch Can project
I went to auto zone and got a 1/2 line that they cut in the back of the store. If you do it the way i did you'll only need about 12inches. The lines hold the vacuum and boost. My buddy is running 18lbs and its the same stuff he used.
The plastic should hold up fine but if it doesnt I was just going to tuck the line under the fuel rails and run the catch to the back of the motor. I'll have to find a place to mount it but then I can just run the line straight to the crank case. I was thinking about doing this in the first place but decided I didnt have the time to find a place to mount it so if I want I can just re-do it this weekend. All it is is hose.
I'll take a picture of how much oil in in therebefore getting tuned and after.
Short block already built is the way to go.

And I thought the post was about a catch can.
Boy was I wrong. This will throw the search for a loop.
A water seperator being used as a oil seperator.
Nifty idea.
How often do you expect to have to empty it?

I'd like to use one of those on my passenger side tube. I'll head over to Lowes this weekend. [sm=goodidea.gif]

That is my FI shortblock back up plan. Swap over the heads and everything and keep going.
Just something to look into.

RE: $15 Catch Can project
driving about 60 miles today with a little bit of boost but not all out and there is just a tiny bit in the catch. Just from some driving there is already enough oil in there to be noticable. Everyone needs to invest in a catch can! I was surprised
