Thinking about the Hood Struts.....

couple of questions for y'all:

Quality of product?

Metal strut or black strut?

Thoughts about drilling into sheet metal?

Any prep to the area prior to installation?(after drilling holes)

Ease of installation?

Thanks for the input,
Later and have a great weekend,

RE: Thinking about the Hood Struts.....

i have NEVER done anything to a car before. Not even changed my tire. But i got this done in about 30 min. Drilling is very easy. And it comes with instructions on how to keep it from moving around.

Quality? Its VERY good quality

I got black

I was scared to drill into my hood and bottom, but it was fine after the 1st one.

Any prep? Just some sharpie or pen marks b4 you drill

Very easy to install.

This is where I purchased mine. I got the Elite ones.

They were fast to ship. Instructions were well thought out. Install does not take that long. It took me a fews hours but I was chasing by 3 year old around at the same time. Ok, so I kept taking the tools away from her that she was trying to "fix" my new car with. [sm=yikesomg.gif]

Exact same kits ( even the same video ) are on ebay pretty frequently also.

eBay is where I cam across these guys. However, on eBay I have only seen them sell the cheaper set. I opted for the more expensive kit. It has better hydrolics and has looks better cosmeticaly, at least to me.

:)

Just my opinion, but I think they stick out too far across the length of the fender. They anchor right about where the front tire is. If you had to lean in to work on the engine, it would be damn tough with that thing in the way. To me, it just looks awkward and I'll stick to the rod for now.

I think they're a pretty cool add on. Go for the Elite as I think the stainless steel is the way to go.
I've never seen the need for them, though. Has anyone noticed that you have to drop the hood from quite far up to get it to close?
One foot up wasn't enough. Neither was 2'. Of course I'd only opened the hood on my last car about 7-8 times in almost 2 years! LOL
