V8 versus V6

RE: V8 versus V6
I wouldn't worry too much about MPG. It's not THAT significant of a difference.
I can tell you that the V-8 runs much smoother than the V-6 though. And when you drive them both back to back, the difference feels like much more than $4k. (And yes, I have driven quite a few V6s.)

Honestly Ford is a poor choice for a long lasting car...

A member here with 110K miles and counting...
He has done nothing to his car, except for maintenance of course.
He's also on his original clutch.
My friend's F150 (2001)with 240K miles still works perfect. He replaced onlythe A/C compressor, not bad.
My own F150 (01 also) performs flawlessly at 71K miles. I replaced my first light bulb yesterday, on of the cargo lights.
Boy was I pissed! I'll never buy Ford productagain!
I do agree on the chevy coment...
Altough one of my customer has 240K miles on a Saturn[8D]. It does show tough.

As if 110k miles on a car is a lot? That just goes to show the mentallity of people that aren't used to the typical longevity of foreign cars. At 110k, ALL of my Toyotas were not evennear their half-life...

Let me rephrase this...
The mentality out there is that American cars are dead at 80K.
Not so.
And your beloved foreign cars are not perfect machines.
I've seen Lexus cr@p out well before 100K, owned by old people.
Althougvery rare, it happens...
Mercedes owners will be lucky if they reach 100K without headaches.
Toyota Tundras have tranny/differential problems...
Noooooo, could it be??[&:]
People must not know how to drive them then...

IMHO, it's not a matter of *if* the car will last you 10 years. I firmly believe that any car, with proper maintenance
can last 10 years and hundreds of thousands of miles. Any car, not properly maintained, will give out well before
it's life expectancy. Every manufacturer can and has built a lemon.
The question is, in 10 years, will driving it still put a big $hit eatin' grin on your face?
Buy the GT.

And neither is this car. 40 years ago with that tech, cars got over 100K miles.

10 years or 100K was the standard 40 years ago. not now. Now, I'd say 200K miles.

RE: V8 versus V6
Just to clarify, the 5R55S is the same TYPE of trans, however the GT has a few added mods to it. Technically, they are not the same trans, the GT's will hold up more.
GT"s get decent gas mileage for what they are. Way better rear end then the sixxer, and a lot more fun to drive. That last part is personal preference. Good luck with your choice.

RE: V8 versus V6
I have a 2007 V6 stang. It's mainly my daily driver and I'm very happy with it. There's not that big a difference in mileage between the V6 and V8 so if you want more HP, the V8 is obviously a better choice. The biggest difference is in price, and in my case, because I'm under 25, the insurance cost is much different between the 2.
Overall I'm very happy with my car. My only regret with getting a V6 is that it's aftermarket is not quite as large as the V8's. But, it's aftermarket is still extremely good compared to non-Mustangs. The engine is nice and torquey enough for me to enjoy driving for fun, but I'm not gonna blow anyone away at a stoplight.
As far as reliablility goes: take good car of either a V6 or V8 and it will last. They're both reliable cars.
