87 tune vs 93 tune on CAI
I don't want to turn this thread into a C&L vs JLT, but I was thinking about the JLT and then had second thoughts about the C&L. Anyways, I'm getting one pretty soon here and I know that the 93 tune will add roughly 30 hp if I'm not mistaken. How much less hp are we talking about if I go with the 87 tune? With gas prices the way they are, would you say it was worth switching to the 93 octane? I get about 19 mpg in the city so its not just horrible.

So you're about to spend about $600 + for a CAI & tune and then you'rethinking about sacrificing performance for roughly (20 cents/gallon diffx maybe 20 gallons/week) $4/week? Maybe you should use that $600 and buy a bicycle.
Sorry, but we bought these cars for performance, not economy. It's pretty strange how some people will pour $$ into them and then whine about a few bucks per week difference.

Its not just a question of how much HP each tune gives you. It isa question of where the powerband is for a given tune lies.
Ihave a steeda cai and 3 tunes frombrenspeed, 93, 91 and 87. I've been running the 93 perf tune since last May when I installed it. I just uploaded the 87 to see the difference. I've only been out a couple of times with no real hard driving, but in the absence of scientific measurements of anykind I base this on personal experience and observation:the 93 really developed power in the 4k - 6k range. Depending on environmentalsit would be anoticeable difference between 3.5k and 4k (and onup)the car just'hopped up' a little. The 87 does not exhibit this same characteristic.I want to say the 87 was a 'torque tune' (I don't remember for sure and the tune types are not listed on my invoice.)I am not positive what the difference is but my senses are telling me that the 87 might have slightly more pull/grunt down low. If you do go with a non-standard tune from say Brespeed or Bama they can ask you what your application is and then explain the various options in their tunes to you.
BTW I went with the steeda because at the time I made the purchase I was contemplatinga saleen SC (in the future) and the steeda cai will work with the serives VI unit.

In my opinion, the difference between the 93 octane tune and the 87 octane tune is LARGER than the difference between the 87 octane tune and the stock 87 tone. 93 is WELL worth it.
