RE: 3v camshaft help
I like gears for the next mod. 4.30 if your a nut job. 4.10 if your serious. 3.90 if your worried about highway rpm.
3.73 if your worried about noise with Motives. Because of the different OD ratio the 4.30 Manual / 4.10 Auto are about the same rpm on the highway.
I would want longtubes before a cam. In an automatic a PI Converter would certainly be on my list.
As a matter of fact a converter is pretty much a requirement for a lot of aftermarket cams.
Without it they will often be slower than stock.
You dont get very big gains from a NSR cam from what Ive seen. They will work with the stock springs but accelerate wear
on them. Valves will float at a lower rpm than stock and it will get worse with time. Its hard on thecam phasers as well.
Between weak springs and a malfunctioning cam phaser it might not be pretty. Mr. Valve meet Mr. Piston.
Alreadyseen it in a 2V and doesnt have as close of clearanceor cam phasers to worry about.
Not only that but the cam design is really handicapped by the very wide LSA's required to provide clearance.
If I was doing cams without heads I would do springs + phaser mods and go for the 127400 SPR XE256PH-12 as I think the design will really compliment a street engine with stock heads. Some of the bigger cams may sound better but I doubt they will be faster unless you want to run a really big stall. Thats really going to push the price up though.
Of course when I get to that point I plant to do Heads + Cams at the same time.
