Default 2005 Mustang GT - How good on gas?

I have ordered a 2005 Mustang GT with the 5 speed auto. I am aware of Ford's claim on MPG with this car (19 city / 23 hwy) but I wanted to get feedback from an owner on this. Does this car really get those ratings?

Thanks,
Bill Goszinski

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Who buys a "performance" car and worries about gas mileage? Should have got a 6 banger.

No, but does any car get the mpg the factory claims? The problem with the GT and mpg claims is that they don't drive them like we do, so we are guaranteed to get lower mpg.

I have an auto gt and I am not getting anywhere near 19mpg and more than half of my driving is highway driving. Of course, I enjoy opening the car up and only have 600 miles on the car, so we will see. I am getting my underdrive pulleys and CAI put on with a dyno tune, which should only help the mpg slightly.

City/highway driving for me is around 21-22 average......

Highway only is closer to 23-24,

Not bad.....

There is no need to be rude. I'm the original owner of a silver Boss 351 and am not a dumb high school kid dreaming of buying a new Mustang if daddy gives me the money. I feel it is a reasonable question to ask and you were out of line. Every car show I attend people are friendly and we all help each other with our hobby of Mustang appreciation. You are not one of those people, I gather.

No, I'm an *******.

Since gas is going up considerably, all I hear is moaning and complaining. That always helps the situation. It's like bitching about the heat in the summer. If you're so worried about gas mileage, why didn't you buy a 6'er...or a Civic. Unless it's an image thing with you. Which, thusly, you still could have just got the 6'er.

Bill:

Don't stress over the responses here. Believe me, I have had my share of those responses, but the positives here far outweigh the negatives.

He didn't say that he was considering the mustang, but wanted to make sure that he got the factory mpg, he asked whether the mustang he HAS ON ORDER will meet up with factory claims. If it really bothered him, he would have asked the question before ordering the car.

Are some of you in need of a larger cup of coffee this monday morning?
