Default MPG with CAI and tune??

I am thinking of adding a cold air intake and 93 octane tune. Did the guys who have done this notice any change in mpg? Increase? Decrease, or the same as before?

At lower RPMs with the tune your engine is more efficient, therefore you get better MPG. But if you go WOT or get higher up in the RPMs the demand for performence and therefore fuel increases and your MPG will either go down or stay the same (mine stayed the same - 50/50 highway/city driving).

I make about a six hour trip about once a month and before my trip last month I did three things. I changed my oil to a synthetic, and put on a CAI along with a 93 octane tune from Brenspeed. Before I did that I was averaging (on my cars computer) about 21.5 MPG and then after it jumped to 23.5 MPG. So...since I did all three things at once I am not sure if it was the CAI, the new tune, or the oil, OR maybe all three that caused me to get about two more miles per gallon. Take that over a 350 mile trip and it helps some! But I also noticed a huge difference on performance. I don't know what the actual Horsepower increase is but the seat of the pants dyno is huge!

You can't just go by the computer to tell mpg especially after a tune. Last time I filled up, the computer told me that trip I got 19.5 mpg and the real calculation gave me 18.2 mpg. I suggest only going by information of people who actually calculate it by hand because the computer has never seemed to be very accurate on my car even though it is stock.

Yeah, I took a 60 mile trip today at constant speeds of 65-80 and calculated afterward. I got 24.3 mpg.

Are you buying the CAI & tune to improve fuel mileage or performance? If you're worried about fuel mileage, then save the ~$600 and put it towards gas.

The CAI & tune is a performance mod. The question should be what performance change people have noticed. But, to answer your question, I MAY have seen possibly about 1/2 mile per gallon improvement. I take 1-2, 800 mile trips per month and I hand calculate and average my mileage every month. My average is now a little over 23 MPG.

Before CAI/Tune
18/27 on 87
19/28 on 93

After CAI/Tune
19/30 on 93

I suspect the CAI/Tune (BamaChips/JLTII) helps it in town as well but the response is addictive.

VMP has some special mileage tunes where he plays with part throttle cam retard to pick up 1-2 mpg over the standard settings if mileage is a major issue
