Default Shelby GT purchase actually makes sense

Many here argue that the Shelby GT is horribly overpriced for upgrades and cosmetics that would run a buyer far less if purchased separately. But I just contacted my favorite dealership around here and, as opposed to the other dealership who wanted 40,000 for the Shelby, these guys are selling it for sticker for 31,700. It is a manual tranny with the Shaker 1000 and ambient lighting and all the options one would find on a loadedPremuim GT...at abarely higher price... so for the price that many others pay for their Shelby GT's I can buy one and supercharge it. I think I might be about to do it... just have to talk to the empress of the household first...

For $31,700 its definetly worth it. Is it an 07 or an 08?

Make sure that you're correctly comparing prices.

A proper comparison would be that $31,700 for the Shelby vs. the price that you could get a normal GT for, NOT the sticker price of a normal GT. I'm thinking that a somewhat loaded GT would sticker for around $30,000 or so, but you could get it for closer to $25-$26k.

(I pulled that number from my sticker price, which was $35k for a vert, then subtracted $5k for the vert option, and then added in how much I got off of sticker on my GT...just in case anyone is wondering where those numbers came from).

So the correct comparison wouldn't be $31,700 vs. $30,000, but rather $31,700 vs. $25-$26k. If you do that comparison, then the Shelby may not be as "worth it" as you think.

That being said, a Shelby is an awesome car and no clones can ever claim to really be a Shelby, so if that's worth it to you, godspeed man!

31.7k isn't bad at all. Should be an investment in some time.

It's an '08 with all the options including a nav system and interior upgrades. Similar regular GT's are selling for around 29 to 31 K....barely under the Shelby. For some reason the dealership refuses to go above the MSRP of the car. I love it!

All the SGT's that I have looked at add approx. 9k for the shelby package. That means that they are either not going to charge you for all the Shelby upgrades or the GT had a base price of 22k and its seems to be loaded...either way it doesn't seem possible, or if it is then the shelby isn't holding its value, is it. Sure your not drunk, I call BS.

That's a great deal - it's below sticker, probably even below invoice. SAI adds $9,500 to the price for their work, so just tack that on to the MSRP for a loaded GT. Sticker should be at least $39,000? Using Shelbys as a loss leader is kind of an interesting business model for a Ford dealer...
