Strut Tower Brace -- What's the deal?

RE: Strut Tower Brace -- What's the deal?
Thanks for the replies, everyone. It's nice to get input from members I've come to respect on this forum.
So, considering I have a vert AND I like the twisties, this doesn't sound like a bad idea. Think I might go for it.
Any more thoughts?

to be 100% honest with you ppl.. i always have heard they dont do SH.T.. but i have had my gt500 brace on for about a week or two now, and HONESTLY... and this could be just bc i wanted to notice it.. but i swear it feels a little tighter.. either way.. it was $40 from ford and tied the engine bay up a little.. but for $40.. its worth the gamble IMO..
i noticed a diff.. i swear!! LOL.. seriously

You don't have to swear I believe it. I take this one turn by my house fast every time i drive by it. After I put the strut brace on i can take it faster and there's less body roll. I got it solely for the looks but I'm telling you I can feel a diffrence. Def won't do anything for drag racing but I def think it would help for autocross

my seat of the pants meter tells me there was aslightimprovement, especially over extremely bumpy sections of road. also, it is well known that if a manufacturer wants to put stiffer dampening on one of their vehicles they need to also improve the rigidness of the chassis. so, i figure by putting stiffer springs on my car it can only help that i add a strut tower brace.

if you post handling questions in the handling section you will get more technical answers. there are some real knowlegeable folks with a lot of experience who monitor that area

The S197s are far stiffer than the old SN95s.
It adds weight and if you are only running stock
HP it takes away from the proper weight distribution
that Ford went as far as to make the hood out of
costly lighter aluminum instead of heavier and cheaper steel.
Now you are adding front endweight? Shame on you.
Unless you are autocrossing with 300+ HP or have money
burning a hole in your pocket or need it for weekend
impress your friends sessions, I would skip it.
Instead, crawl underneith and check that you have the
K-Member brace Ford left off some stangs for some reason.
Maybe get a G-Trac brace if yours is sans OEM brace.
