Well I don't normally respond to these, but since it has piqued so much interest, it is not carpet, but rather a cheap *** 10 dollar E Bay dash cover, that is normally only used in conjunction with a sun shield to assure I am not replacing a cracked dash in another few years....

I've got a dash cover on mine as well. Coverking. Works great and I did it for the same reasons as you. My car is in the sun during the day so I'd rather keep the dash protected.
