I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to use a clay bar on ourthree week old Mustang before preparing to install stripes. I used a clay bar for the first time today on mynine month old F-150 that had lots of little orange spots on the silver paint after its first Michigan winter. I was amazed how smooth it made the paint feel. The Mustang, which was just washed, felt a little rough in comparison. I'm thinking that the smoothest surface possible under the stripes would be best. Any reason not to do this?

Definitely do it. Be sure not to WAX prior to putting the stripes on. Clay first, apply stripes, no wax in the area if your stripes are matte finish.
