Yep it can be done. Are you getting just the motor and trans or the whole front clip.

You really want the whole front clip or it is going to be expensive!

basically its the 5.4l trition same engine as the shelby

i see alot of guys do it in older model mustangs
Isn't the truck 5.4L a 3 valve motor, whereas the GT500 5.4L is a 4 valve motor? I'm sure there are other differences too, besides the supercharger.

You can get 5.4L-3v motors pretty cheap. They are rated at 300hp too. With FI, a 5.4L-3v would be an powerful conversion, and a bunch cheaper than a 5.4L-4v build-up (although either would be awesome). Rygen is doing the former, while Buckman is doing the latter. Should make for an entertaining grudge match.

If you can get the front clip you'll need it. Otherwise your going to need the wiring harness, hoses and belts, heat exchanger, the GT500 has a larger radiator so that's nice, and a host of other little items! However, the wiring is the big one. If you can get the front clip it's so much easier!!

You'll need to get the shifter linkage assembly from Ford. The aftermarket ones use some of the factory pieces so get ready that baby is $500.00. Then get a Pro 5.0 shifter to go with the linkage, that's what I have and it works great.

You'll need new headers and midpipe. I got Kooks but they're expenseive, about 1,600.00 I believe.

You'll need an aftermarket drive shaft. I got the one from Driveshaft shop 750.00

You'll need to run a micro switch off of the break to release the gate on the transmission for reverse (the GT computer doesn't have this function and you'll have to use it, I'll explain in a minute). You can do with out it but reverse sucks if you do!!!

You'll want to use your GT computer because other wise you'll have to mess with the PATS to get your keys to work.

You may need to look at an aftermarket K-member like BMR or AJE if the motor doesn't have one.

Since you'll be using the GT computer you'll need a good tuner. I may be able to hook you up with my guy and he may E-mail you the tune he used on my car but I can't speak for him, I'd have to check.

All in all it is not a project for the faint of heart and get ready to open the wallet. GT500 parts aren't cheap!

However, you can make a real beast out of it!

That's all I can think of off the top of my head! I know there's a bunch of other things. I may remember more later but those were items that snagged us so they stick out in my mind!

For that price I would love to get my hands on one, build it from the bottom up, and have the fastest n/a 5.4L on the forums
What and use the supercharger for a planter? Sounds like a waste to me.
You either go with the whole forged blown 5.4 or why bother?

Ooops missed the part where this was a 5.4L triton and not a GT500 motor and trans.

Sorry about that!

The Triton is not forged...
Hell, I'd go with the Navigator 4 Cams before I mess with the 3V.
It's the next best thing from the Cobra in the 5.4 department.

First you said you were getting the whole drivetrain out of a GT500, now it's a Lightning. Which is it?

I'm getting out of this thread before my brain tilts[&:].
Anyway, if it's not a drive train from the Cobra, he's in for more than $6K or whatever he said.

Yeah....GT500 and 2000 Lightning are not quite the same thing.

My tune won't work with that motor.

The ECU won't help because it probably wont work with your cars electronics and the PATS are going to be a pain. You'll need a Ford Dealer to recode or disable (if it can be disabled).

No your headers won't work. 5.4 and 4.6 are two different animals.

Either way it will be a project.

I wish you the best of luck!
